Volunteer: Volunteer Janitor at the Salvation Army

The Volunteer Janitor assures the health of all staff and clients by keeping key areas of our administration building clean. A clean building shows pride in our workplace and encourages the confidence of our clients and partnering agencies.

Reports to: Stacy Blaisdell, Volunteer and Community Relations Coordinator

Location: The Salvation Army of Tacoma Administration Building 1501 6th Ave., Tacoma, WA 98405

Responsibilities and Duties

Keep key areas of the building clean such as bathrooms, Front Lobby and kitchen Put all equipment away properly and safely after work is completed

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older Successful interview with Volunteer Coordinator Complete all aspects of the volunteer application before starting service, including clearance of background check and completion of required trainings Follow daily work sheet, checking off duties as accomplished Must be able to lift 40 pounds to waist level Be courteous and respectful to clients, staff, volunteers and other visitors to our building Follow policies and procedures as outlined by The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps Volunteer Handbook

Volunteer: Warehouse Assistant at the Salvation Army

Warehouse Assistants receive inventory and stock donated items of all kinds, including but not limited to food, clothing and dry goods. The Warehouse stocks our Food Bank and is a vital part of providing basic human needs to our clients.

Location: The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps Warehouse 1501 6th Ave., Tacoma, WA 98405

Responsibilities and Duties

Receiving food, clothing and other in-kind donations Taking inventory and entering it into a computer data-base Proper disposal of food, garbage and recyclable waste Proper storage and organization of items kept in warehouse Use of equipment such as hand-lift as appropriate with training Certification for and proper use of forklift Some cleaning such as mopping floors, keeping equipment clean and cleaning warehouse refrigeration and freezer units as needed Other duties as assigned

Food Bank Workers keep a consistent flow of goods through the food bank to assure that our clients in need of food are served to the best of our ability. The Food Bank is an important part of our fight to provide basic human needs in the City of Tacoma.

Responsibilities and Duties

Sorting and preparing bulk foods and produce in preparation for distribution to clients Mopping floors, cleaning shelves, cleaning refrigeration and freezer units Stocking shelves Personally assist clients as they shop Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Complete all aspects of the volunteer application before starting service, including clearance of background check Must be 16 years of age or older Be able to lift at least 10 pounds to waist level Be courteous and respectful to clients, staff, volunteers and other visitors to our campus Excellent de-escalation skills Follow policies and procedures as outlined by The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps Volunteer Handbook
