Volunteer: Book Fair Helper

Love kids? Love books? Love to see kids reading books? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions than your hunt for the perfect volunteer gig is over! Page Ahead is   looking for volunteers to help at elementary schools we serve with our Book Up Summer program. In this program, schools hold book fairs in April – June, with books provided by Page Ahead. At these book fairs students, grades K – 2nd, will each self-select 12 brand new, free-to-them books, to take home and keep.

 

For many of these children, this will be the first book they own. We are in need of volunteers (3 – 4 per school) to help at the book fairs with various tasks in elementary schools across Washington State.  

 

Volunteers will help the school:

Un-pack the boxes of books Inventory the book titles Set-up the book displays

 

Volunteers might also be asked to help the students:

Shop for their 12 new books to take home for summer reading Assist the kids with counting their books and put the books in their shopping bag Restock the bookshelves in-between classes coming through Help the students put their name plate sticker in their new books Sit and read one on one with students (time permitting)

 

Note: All book fair shifts take place during the school day.

One hour minimum volunteer shifts School districts require additional paperwork from each volunteer (2 weeks in advance of a shift). Each school runs their book fair the way it works best for their school and students, volunteer tasks may vary per school.
