Tacoma, Lakewood, Pierce County Community Continuum of Care in partnership with Pierce County Community Connections are seeking volunteers to gather census data of the homeless population and those at risk of becoming homeless in Pierce County. The Point-In-Time (PIT) count is scheduled on Friday, January 27, 2017.
On the day of the PIT count, over 200 volunteers are needed between the hours of 7:00am-7:00pm for two-to-three hour blocks of time to help conduct the PIT count. Volunteers will conduct surveys throughout Pierce County at hot meal sites, day shelters, health clinics, on the streets and at ‘giveaway’ (site) locations.
Prior to assisting with the event, volunteers are required to attend one of the scheduled trainings. During the PIT training the following topics will be discussed: reasons for the survey, the process by which data is collected, and safety information. Training dates and times will be released at a later date.
In addition to needing volunteers, we are also in need of donations of personal items such as blankets, sleeping bags, jackets, socks, severe weather gear (gloves, hats, scarves, etc.) duffle bags, bottled water, flashlights/batteries, towels, and toiletries. Donation sites will be announced at a later date.
