LASA
LASA is a community supported agency committed to the prevention of both homelessness and recurrent homelessness.
This volunteer-run program provides prevention assistance with water and other utilities (when available), and bus tickets. This program also provides rental assistance to households with a 3-day pay or vacate notice (when available). Rental assistance is in great demand and can be the last stop before a family becomes homeless.
Short-term shelter housing provides families a safe turn-key ready apartment with stays of up to 30 days. Phone and utility services are included along with case management focused on the family’s immediate needs. There is no charge to the family for this service.
We operate six units in Lakewood and four in Fife in a partnership with Sound Families, Pierce County Housing Authority, and social service agencies. Families are provided an apartment along with case management services. A limited number of Section 8 certificates are available to graduates of this program. Section 8 is a federally-subsidized program that helps low income families pay their rent.
This program provides 15 units of permanent supportive housing to families with a head of household who is unable to earn a living due to having a disability. More information on this program is available under the Prairie Oaks tab.
Orchard Heights is a privately owned apartment community that receives a tax credit for renting out 10 units at low cost to formerly homeless families. LASA is able to partner with them to place appropriate program graduates into this beautiful complex.
