Metro Parks Tacoma CHIP-In Program
Metro Parks Tacoma manages over 2,700 acres of parks and green space, historic landmarks, community centers, beautiful gardens and special attractions that give us all a chance to get out and play more.
CHIP-In, Citizens Helping Improve Parks, originated in 2003. Since then people in the community have stepped up to stewards these spaces. We strive to connect people to their local natural areas, while improving and strengthening the environment and the community these areas are in.
We help restore Metro Parks Tacoma Natural Areas. The first Saturday thru the 4th of every month there is a dedicated natural area steward hosting a restoration work party at one of our parks. There are multiple steps to restoring the ecology of a natural area, so depending on the phase of the restoration work, you could be removing invasive plant, or planting native plants to help improve the environment and habitat of the site.
We also educate and inform our volunteers about the importance of restoration work, learn about plants and their benefits, as well as the history of the area your working.
