Homeless Mail Intern

This position plays a vital role in supporting households experiencing economic instability, including individuals living with mental and physical disabilities. Combining direct client interaction with a strong administrative focus, the role requires advanced data entry skills, exceptional organization, and a high level of attention to detail. The position operates within the Benefit Access Department (BAD), contributing to programs designed to promote housing stability, financial management, and access to essential resources. A primary responsibility of this role is supporting Protective Payee Services, which involves managing and distributing Social Security and Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) funds on behalf of clients. This includes budgeting, bill payment, and ensuring funds are allocated in alignment with DSHS referrals or Social Security Administration guidelines. Through this service, the position helps clients maintain stable housing and meet their basic needs. The role also supports Homeless Mail Services, which provides a secure mailing address for individuals experiencing homelessness. By receiving and distributing critical correspondence—such as benefits-related mail for SNAP, TANF, and ABD—this service ensures clients can access essential programs and maintain communication with service providers. In addition, the position contributes to the Community Connections Resource Center (CCRC), a centralized hub for individuals and families facing housing instability in Pierce County. Through the CCRC, clients can access financial assistance for essential items such as identification documents, birth certificates, and employment-related licensing, all of which support long-term stability. Overall, this position is integral to advancing equitable access to resources, empowering clients to achieve stability, and supporting the broader mission of reducing poverty and homelessness in the community.
